Trainee patchworker...

My youngest granddaughter Grace who is 9 years old just loves anything crafty including sewing but she had never used a sewing machine before so we spent a lovely day together and I taught Grace how to use my sewing machine.
The first thing we did was to make a simple drawstring bag and we cut out flower shapes of fabric with a couple of my craft dies and this was the result.
All I've done is to actually cut the fabric out for her....
Grace then decided she would like to have a go at simple quilting so we found some scraps of fabric, Grace decided on the design and away she went...all I did on this piece of work was to tack the binding on for her as she kept pricking her finger on the sharp pins!
Its all Grace's own work, ok a little wobble on the binding edge but as you can see she was so happy with her quilt....I think Father Christmas might just bring her a sewing box with some fabric in.... I think its such a joy that she wants to learn to sew and knit,  my mum taught me when I was very young which enabled me to make my daughters clothes.

Thanks for stopping by ...

Hi Anne, popping in before I say goodnight and I am glad I did, so cute is Grace and her quilting, very well done. It is good for her to be keen to sew, I was self taught and ended up making wedding dresses, veils and the posies...she looks so happy.xx [aNNie]

It is great when young people want to learn skills like this - sewing will always come in so useful as she gets older and if she enjoys it so much the better. She's done a great job.

Sounds like you had a lovely day with Grace and she looked extremely happy with her makes - we have an Anysia Grace, but she's a bit too old to play with Granny anymore, but quite happy to go out on a hack with me !

Oh, how fun to catch up with you, Anne! So many beautiful cards to see at once, but I do apologize for being a bad visitor! I especially loved this post about Grace and the photos! Great beginning quilt! (That's more quilting than I've ever done in my life!) I can just hear the joy in your words describing the fun you had with her. Brought a tear because I love to see traditions being passed on! Enjoy all the future times you will have with adorable Grace!! Hugs, Darnell
